A personalized lake map gift is easiest to plan when you begin with a particular place and memory. It might mark a family’s first cabin, years of summer visits or the shoreline someone calls home. You do not need to add every detail of that story to the artwork. A familiar lake and one carefully chosen personal detail can carry the meaning.
Start with the right lake
Confirm the lake name and location before choosing the design. Similar names can refer to different places, so check the state and shoreline on the product page. If you are buying for someone else, a photo from a previous visit or a conversation with another family member can help you confirm which lake they mean.
Use the interactive map to browse, or start with a known design such as Lake of the Ozarks. If the lake is not listed, ask about a custom map before ordering. A request is the starting point for discussing the design, size and quote.
Choose the detail that belongs to the recipient
Personalization options can include a family name, lake house name, house pin, coordinates or a favorite phrase. Pick the detail the recipient would recognize immediately. A cabin nickname may be more meaningful than a long inscription, while a house pin can identify the place where the family gathers.
Write out the exact wording you want. Check spelling, capitalization and apostrophes, especially for surnames. If you want an establishment date, confirm what it represents: the year the house was bought, a wedding year or another occasion. For a house pin or coordinates, give us a clear location to work from and check that placement carefully in the proof.

Select the options that are part of your gift
Choose customization on the product page and enter the requested details. Backplates are a separate choice: the available options on standard lake map pages include no backplate, solid black and full color. Names, logos or colored backplates shown in example photographs are not automatically included in every order.
Check the map’s listed dimensions against the recipient’s likely display space. If a different size or more involved design is important, confirm it with us before placing the order.
Give the proof a careful review
For custom work, we prepare a layout proof using the details you provide. We may contact you to clarify the request, and you can ask for changes before approving the design for cutting. Treat this as a practical check of the gift, rather than only a quick look at its overall appearance.
- Read every name and date against your original notes.
- Confirm the lake and the position of any house pin.
- Check that the wording and arrangement reflect your request.
- Send any corrections together so the revised proof is easy to review.

Plan around the occasion, not just checkout
Our production and shipping schedule starts each Tuesday. Orders received on Monday join that Tuesday’s run; orders received on Wednesday join the following Tuesday’s run. Estimated dispatch is 1–2 weeks for standard orders and 2–3 weeks for custom orders, counted from that scheduled production start, with typical UPS transit of another 2–4 business days. These are estimates, not guaranteed arrival dates. Allow time to answer questions and approve the proof before cutting.
If the gift is for a wedding, birthday or housewarming, tell us the date before ordering so we can discuss the schedule. Send one clear brief with the lake, preferred size, exact wording, any pin location and your deadline. That gives us the information needed to help turn a personal idea into a considered gift.
